Cosa rappresenta la Svizzera per te?

Io vivo a Ginevra. Ginevra non è la Svizzera. Ginevra ha un respiro internazionale. In molti altri posti in Svizzera non è così. Sono realtà contemporanee che hanno visioni diverse di come guardare il mondo.

Cosa rappresenta l’Italia per te?

L’Italia rappresenta gli affetti, I sapori, gli odori. Lì ho la capacità di capire il non-detto anche solo attraverso gli sguardi. Qui per me non è lo stesso. L’Italia vorrei che fosse il paese della mia vecchiaia. Non mi vedo morire a Ginevra. Vedo nei vecchi qui una grande solitudine: è la mia percezione. Qui ho la percezione forte della solitudine degli anziani.

What does Switzerland mean to you?

I live in Geneva. Geneva is not Switzerland. Geneva is international. Many other places in Switzerland are not. They are contemporary realities that have different visions of how to look at the world.

What does Italy mean to you?

Italy represents affections, tastes, and smells. There I have the ability to understand the unspoken just through glances. Here it is not the same for me. I would like Italy to be the country of my old age. I don’t see myself dying in Geneva. I see in old people here a great loneliness: that is my perception. Here I have a strong perception of the loneliness of old people.
