I was born in Florence, in San Niccolò’s neighbourhood.
Living there is like living in a small village. Take a walk there and you will meet always the same people.
In 2003 I decided to photograph these people, my neighbours: the greengrocer, the joiner, the jeweler, the butcher, the priest. The project got inspired by Irving Penn’s work “Small Trades,” but not from August Sander’s “Faces of our time.” I didn’t work on stereotypes. I wanted to photograph the different faces…
This is the image of Don Gamucci, the priest of San Niccolò in 2003.
